“Creative work is a gift to the world and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got.” – Steven Pressfield
I grew up very close to my “Nana” and spent many hours at her house as a child. One of my favorite things to do was play with her box of what she called “junk jewelry.” To me, this jumble of sparkly treasures was anything but junk, and I would get lost in the colors, textures, sparkle and pattern of her cast-off costume jewelry. Looking back, I’d say this is where my love of jewelry began.
As I grew, the satisfaction I found in creating things with my hands took many forms- drawing, painting, sewing, home improvement projects and the like. When it was time to decide between art school and business school, my practical side chose business school, but my creative side would never let go of my need to create.
After 15 years of wearing my treasured engagement ring, a prong snapped and I took the opportunity to design an entirely new setting. It was then that my eyes were opened to the world of jewelry making and I have been obsessed ever since.
So in 2015, I took my first metalsmithing class and finally found the creative outlet I am truly passionate about. I find inspiration everywhere, especially from textures found in nature, and I am particularly drawn to things with a history that have aged over time and have a story to tell. Much of my work incorporates organic textures and patterns and is intentionally oxidized to bring out that beauty.
Stumbling upon the quote above was the “ah-ha” moment I needed to get my work out into the world. My hope is that you enjoy wearing my pieces as much as I have enjoyed making them for you.
